What is an academic speech therapist?

Academic speech therapists diagnose, treat and advise patients
of all ages with disorders of speech, language, hearing, swallowing
and voice.

Often, the areas of concentration of “Logopäden” and academic
speech therapists overlap.

The training, however, is quite different. Academic speech therapists
complete a four- to five-year university program. These four- to
five-year university curricula are the only German qualification pro-
grams which correspond to European standards for speech therapy
professionals.
